An all-organic cafe with a mission to support foster care youth has opened in a historic home near Lowest Greenville.
La La Land Kind Cafe debuted in March at 5626 Bell Avenue in a renovated 100-year-old house. The 23-year-old founder Francois Reihani created the cafe as an extension of his non-profit We Are One Project, which employs foster youth who have turned 18 and are no longer receiving assistance. To that end, La La Land Kind Café is staffed by foster kids who are aging out of the system or have already turned 18 and are struggling to find or maintain a job. “We give them the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to thrive in the working world,” Reihani said in a statement. Plus, 10 percent of proceeds from the café will fund the We Are One Project.
The 1,500-square-foot cafe interiors are truly stunning with white walls, fixtures, and furniture, exposed wood beam ceilings, and pops of yellow as an accent color. A backyard area, adorned with string lights and comfy furniture, offers cafe-goers a “Dog Parking” area where dogs can roam while their humans are inside ordering up drinks and eats.
In addition to serving up only organic fare like bacon, egg, and potato empanadas, croissants, and a variety of toasts, the cafe boasts an intense beverage program that starts with some serious machinery. The shop’s espresso maker is sourced from Amsterdam and took an astounding four months to build by hand, while pour-over coffee will be created with a Poursteady machine, offered in only a few other coffee shops in the United States. La La Land Kind Café is the first in DFW to boast the fancy instrument and only the second shop in Texas, according to a press release. Espresso-based drinks like a creme brulee or thin mint lattes are on offer, along with reserve teas from East Asia, reserve coffees from Africa and South America, and ceremonial grade matcha from one of the oldest family-owned farms in Japan.
La La Land Kind Café officially opened on Monday, March 25 and will operate Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
